Cross-Over Designers: High Fashion at a Low Cost

High fashion clothes at discount retailersUnfortunately, we can’t all afford the high cost of famous names and big designers. Or can we?

More and more often, high-end designers such as Isaac Mizrahi, Vera Wang, and Missoni are teaming up with big-box stores and traditional lower-cost retail locations to provide chic fashion for the smart, budget-conscious consumer.

Rather than having to scour consignment shops, Goodwill, or the clearance racks at high-end retailers, shoppers can now find fashions that are designed by some of the most popular names on the runway right in their local Target or Kohl’s department stores.

Here are some of the names you might find:

  • Brian Lichtenberg – Reportedly a favorite designer of Lady Gaga, Lichtenberg has had a line of clothing at Forever 21.
  • Missoni – Missoni’s Target line sold out in mere days several years ago, proving the popularity of lower-cost name brand goods.
  • Isaac Mizrahi – Mizrahi was one of the early big designers to go low-cost in early the 2000s. His designs at Target include clothing, accessories, housewares, and bedding.
  • Zac Posen – Posen was part of Target’s Go International Collection where he sold creative dress styles. He currently sells his own low price point brand, Z Spoke, at Saks Fifth Avenue.
  • Isabel Toledo – Toledo was first made famous when Michelle Obama wore a pair of her shoes to Barack Obama’s inauguration. You can now find her low-cost shoes in Payless stores.
  • Vera Wang – Wang has sold her Simply Vera collection in Kohl’s stores since 2007. It includes clothing, accessories, and household furnishings.
  • Stella McCartney, Karl Lagerfield, Jimmy Choo, Versace – All of these designers have sold lines of clothing at H&M, which typically produces all of its clothing in-house.

So, even if your budget doesn’t allow you to shop at high-end stores, or you don’t have the patience for bargain-hunting, you can still find high-end fashion pieces at your neighborhood big-box retailers.

In other words, great fashion doesn’t have to cost a bundle!
